127 Hours

Hello there, blog buddies!

So tonight I saw the movie 127 Hours with my parents on Blu-Ray en mi casa, and I must say, it was VERY good. I loved the style, the pace, and most of all, the story. Truly inspiring.

More than anything this movie made me think about the human condition and how precious life is. Although, there were also a lot of symbolic clips that showed tons of people walking in crowds, running marathons, etc. (I just had a thought...I wonder how many people use "etc." when they want to have a longer list but can't think of anything else to add to it, because that's what I just did. :/ ) For me these clips symbolized intense population. So I guess the whole theme for the movie for me was to think before you act. Aron, the main character, had multiple instances where he regretted doing or not doing things that led him into his situation. It was frustrating for me to watch at some points because I often struggle with regret in my everyday life as well. But thank God I would never dream of running and jumping around canyons. Baaaaad idea.

Anywho, it's late, and I should probably get to bed. My dad is putting on a haunted hayride tomorrow night with his FFA chapter and I have to help all day with the setup, practice, etc. <---- :) bahaha. Goodnight, world!

Harry Potter And Stuff

Last night I went and saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with a bunch of my friends, and I must say, I was very impressed. I was soooo excited to see it and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

The imagery was simply phenomenal. It's so cool to see how much computer graphics have evolved just over the past decade. The acting was great, especially on Alan Rickman's part. The character of Snape is extremely complex and I thought he portrayed it very well.

I was very surprised that the movie was less than 2 hours long, as nearly all of the others have been 2 1/2 or more. The length of the movie kept me wanting more. I think the ending could have been extended a bit, especially with the battles between Molly Weasley and Bellatrix Lastrange and Harry and Voldemort. But I still stood up and cheered with everyone else in the theater when Bellatrix, Nagini, and Voldemort were finally killed. Totally epic.

Overall, I give the movie a 9 out of 10.

Summer is going by much too quickly; I can't believe I'll be 16 in just a few weeks! I can't wait to drive. :)

Swim Team Is Over :(

Hey there blog buddies!

So today is officially the last day of swim team, a.k.a. Swim Offs. And I'm sick. FML :(

I was going to swim in the medley relay, 100 back, and free relay. I was totally pumped last night too. I got all my stuff packed and set my alarm and watched some swimming technique videos before bed. Then I woke up at 3 AM to the lovely feeling of knives in my stomach. I got up, puked, drank water, and went back to bed. Aaaaaand repeated. 3 more times. I thought I was gonna die.

So now I'm feeling well enough to be slightly productive with my sick self and write an overdue post.

So getting even more off-topic, the very last Harry Potter movie comes out in 6 days!!!!! I'M SO FLIPPIN' EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! I'm reading through all the books. Again. Because they're amazing. :P

Well I think I need to get some rest. Take care :)

A Zinch-Rific Post

Hello everyone! Tonight I've decided to post about a wonderful website that I seem to have become quite popular on: zinch.com. I describe this website to my friends as being like facebook, but with easy access to college reps. and scholarships.

Since I started Zinch about a year ago, I've been contacted by hundreds of schools that I didn't even know existed. I've found scholarships tailored specifically to my needs (meaning they can be applied to by a student my age and match my academic and extra-curricular interests). I've gotten tons of letters in the mail from schools saying that they're interested in me and will be recruiting me when I'm a little older (I'll be 16 in August).

Overall, Zinch is an incredible new resource for students who are serious about going to college. I highly recommend it.

Now, since I'm assuming about half of the viewers of this page saw a link for it on my zinch profile, I will address a topic that might be of interest to a zincher like myself.

I have a ridiculous amount of swagger points. A lot of kids have contacted me via the site asking just how the heck I got so many. Well, I'll tell you now. I feel comfortable doing this because the thing I did to get so much swagger can no longer be done. You see, in the "Scholarships" section of the site under "Get More Money", Zinch gives you the option to send e-mails to your friends inviting them to join the site. For each e-mail you send, you get 4 points. About 2 months ago, you could send thousands of e-mails at a time. Nowadays, you can send only 20 max. One night I typed up a word document containing about 5000 email addresses. I copied and pasted this list repeatedly into the "To:" box of the page. Every time I hit send, I got 20,000 points. I went from about 2,500 points to 2,000,000 points in one night. Over the course of the next month, I increased that amount to about 12,000,000. I felt awesome for exploiting such a seemingly obvious design flaw. Then, the Zinch developers limited the number of e-mails that could be sent at a time. I was done acquiring lump sums of swagger.

Thanks for reading; hope you found this informative.

Iron & Wine: The Epicness of Sam Beam's Beard

Holy moly. I can't seem to stop posting tonight. Anyway, this is a post all about Sam Beam's beard. This one, to be exact:

Now, tell me that's not theee most epic beard you've ever witnessed with your creeper eyes??? Just kidding, you're awesome. There can't possibly be creeper eyes on you. No siree.

Honestly, I've never ever seen a picture of this man without a beard. I don't have a clue what his face looks like...but I'd imagine his beard to be warm and soft and brown and lovely and just downright sensational.

I suppose I'm not really the best person to inform you on this subject. Oh well. Here's one of his songs, and a pretty cool video to go with it:

Hope you liked it! :)

Robert Pattinson Kinda Rocks At Singing and Stuff

So. A couple days ago I found this song on youtube. I'd heard some of Rob's stuff before and really liked it, but I think this one is my new favorite.

Pretty freakin' awesome, right?

The first time I ever heard Rob's stuff, I was thoroughly impressed. I wasn't expecting much and the pure emotion and soulfulness of his voice really surprised me. I hope this compels you to check out some of his other stuff and whatnot.

Byeee! :)

My Very First Post

Hello there, my wonderful new companions. I'm very excited to be starting this blog!

It's officially summertime here in Iowa, so I've found myself with a little more time on my hands than usual. I guess I was feeling particularly bloggy today, and what better way to act on such a feeling than to create a brand new blog! :)

I've yet to entirely discern exactly what this blog will contain. I suppose I'll just end up rambling about whatever is on my mind. I'm glad the name of my blog isn't so specific that rambling would be out of the question. Rambling is my middle name. My first name is Rachel. Nice to meet you. :)

Well, I guess this concludes my very first post. I have some things to dooooo!!! Like delve deeper into a book I just starting reading: The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. It's proved very interesting so far.

Until tomorrow!
